Language difficulties are also common in the early stages of dementia. A person may struggle to find the right word during a conversation, lose their train of thought, or repeat themselves frequently. Reading comprehension and following complex conversations can also become more challenging.
Family members are often the first to notice these subtle changes in communication. What at first seems like a simple distraction can gradually develop into a more persistent pattern.
