1. Red or pink urine or stool (beturia)
- Harmless! Caused by betalain pigments. Affects approximately 10-14% of the population, especially those with hypochlorhydria or iron deficiency.
- Not a trace of blood , just a vibrant natural dye.
2. Kidney stones (in people at risk)
- Beetroot contains oxalates , which can contribute to the formation of calcium oxalate stones in sensitive individuals.
- This should only concern you if you have had oxalate stones in the past.
- Solution : Stay well hydrated; combine your diet with foods rich in calcium (calcium binds to oxalates in the intestine).
