5. Folliculitis
Folliculitis occurs when hair follicles become inflamed.
It may look like small red or white bumps and, at times, it may resemble acne.
Potential contributors include:
- Shaving
- Friction
- Sweat
- bacteria
- Certain skin conditions
Mild folliculitis can improve with gentle skin care and avoiding the triggering factor.
If the lumps become increasingly painful, spread over the area, or fill with pus, it may be advisable to have a doctor evaluate them.
6. Acne
The neck can develop acne just like the face, chest, or back.
Acne-related bumps may include:
- Small pimples
- White spots
- Blackheads
- inflamed red bumps
- Deeper and more sensitive injuries
Hormonal changes, sweat, skin products, friction, and genetics can all play a role.
If neck acne becomes persistent or leaves scars, a dermatologist may recommend appropriate treatment.
