7. Epidermoid cysts
An epidermoid cyst is a small sac that forms under the skin and may contain keratin.
These cysts can appear as:
- Round pieces
- soft bumps
- Firm or slightly soft growths
They can remain unchanged for a long time.
Sometimes they become inflamed or infected, causing:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Drainage
Don’t squeeze a cyst yourself.
Pressure can cause inflammation and increase the risk of infection.
8. Lipomas
A lipoma is a benign growth composed mainly of fatty tissue.
Lipomas often cause:
- Gentle
- Rubbery
- Mobile under the skin
- Relatively painless
They can appear on the neck and other parts of the body.
Most lipomas do not require treatment unless they cause discomfort, grow, or cause some other problem.
If you are unsure whether it is a new lump or one that has changed, it should be evaluated.
9. Contact dermatitis
Sometimes, what appear to be small bumps are actually a skin reaction.
Contact dermatitis can develop after exposure to an irritant or allergenic substance.
Possible triggers include:
- Perfume
- Shampoo
- Hair products
- Jewelry
- laundry products
- Cosmetics
- Skin care products
The skin can become:
- Red
- That causes itching
- Dry
- Bulky
- Irritated
If you suspect that a product is causing the reaction, it may be helpful to stop producing the suspected trigger.
Persistent or severe symptoms should be evaluated.
10. Heat rash
Sweat and heat can sometimes cause small red or itchy bumps.
This is known as heat rash.
It usually develops when sweat gets trapped under the skin.
You might notice it after:
- Do exercise
- Spend time outdoors in warm weather.
- Wear tight clothing
- Sleeping in a hot environment
Keeping your skin cool and dry can be helpful.
If the rash does not improve or unusual symptoms appear, consult a doctor.
