Mourning in figure skating: two promising young skaters lose their lives

The world of  figure skating  is in deep mourning following the deaths of two young talents who, with different but equally brilliant careers, left an indelible mark on the ice. They are  Julia Marie Gaiser , 23, and  Matilda Ferrari , just 15, who died in separate accidents in Austria and Italy, respectively, only days apart.

Julia, born in  Brixen , South Tyrol, had built a career that saw her compete for both Italy and Austria. Her talent made her a key player for the Salzburg state team, with whom she won three consecutive championships in 2023, 2024, and 2025. However, her rising career was unexpectedly cut short when, while cycling, she was struck by a truck at a busy intersection in Austria. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services, they were unable to save her.
