The girl gasped in fear immediately.
« I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! » she stammered, backing away with eyes full of terror.
The young policewoman quickly ducked down.
« Calm down… are you okay? » he asked gently.
The little girl was perhaps eight years old. Her coat was torn. Her shoes were worn out so much that water seeped in. She was shivering with cold.
But before he could answer—
An angry voice echoed through the street.
